Welcome

Welcome to the Online Tutorial  designed to assist Virginia’s public school divisions in reporting discipline, crime, and violence data.  This website will serve as a companion that will provide you with a step-by-step primer on the annual Discipline, Crime, and Violence (DCV) Report.  If you have major responsibility in one capacity or another for this report in your division, you may wish to bookmark this site on your computer for quick, future reference.

You will learn about

  • Why DCV information is collected;

  • The types of information collected and how it is used;

  • The legal bases for collecting and reporting DCV data;

  • Best practice strategies for collecting and using data at the school and school division levels.

This tutorial has been developed as part of a three-year grant, Prevention Through Information:  Addressing Crime and Violence with Data (PTI), from the United States Department of Education to the Virginia Department of Education.  The project includes the development and delivery of training and related resources that support meaningful analysis and use of data for decision-making in prevention program management at the state, school division, school, and community levels.

If you are a first-time visitor to the site, please click on the registration link before you start the tutorial to let us know you visited the site.
